MT Group concluded a Eur 2,8 million contract with Lithuanian natural gas transmission system operator AB Amber Grid for Kiemenai Gas Metering Station reconstruction works in Lithuania (Kiemenai GMS).

This contract is a part of the strategic ELLI (Enhancement of Latvia-Lithuania interconnection) project, which will increase energy transmission capacities between Lithuania and Latvia and ensure the gas market leap to a different level of competitiveness.  ELLI Project is included in The List of the EU Projects of Common Interest, The European Network of Transmission System Operators (ENTSOG) Ten-Year Development Plan, and The National Key Electricity and Gas Transmission Projects Implementation Plan. After completion, the transmission of natural gas capacity between the two countries will roughly double.

„We are joining a key pan-European energy infrastructure reconstruction and modernization project where we will bring all of our expertise and experience in developing strategic energy projects across Europe. Thanks to the systematic and focused work of the entire team, we had already laid a solid foundation for a successful kick-off on the day of signing the contract” says Kristina Norvaišienė, Managing Director of MT Group.

Over the past 8 years, MT Group has contributed to the implementation of all major LNG projects of national importance in Lithuania. The company has designed and built the Klaipeda LNG refueling station, the LNG station in Druskininkai, as well as contributed to the connection of the LNG FSRU Independence to the main gas pipeline network operated by Amber Grid.

„We believe and will strive for the successful implementation of this project with Amber Grid, which sets an even stronger foundation for the future cooperation between the companies,” adds Kristina Norvaišienė.

The project, implemented by MT Group, will ensure security and reliability of natural gas supply, more efficient use of infrastructure and better integration and functioning of the Baltic gas markets. The signed contract covers the preparation of the work project, the purchase of all necessary equipment, the implementation of the construction works, as well as the commissioning coordination, the implementation of the training on the installed equipment, and other necessary procedures to ensure the safe and reliable commissioning of the facility.

Upon completion of all the planned works, the capacity of the Kiemenai gas metering station will increase to 130.47 GWh/day in the Latvian direction (currently being 67.6 GWh/day) and 119.5 GWh/day in the Lithuanian (currently being 65.1 GWh/day).

Contract works for the project have already started and are expected to be completed by the second quarter of 2023, while the ELLI project is expected to be fully completed by 2024.
