The Enhancement of Latvia-Lithuania Interconnection (ELLI project) was completed one year ahead of schedule! After the completion of works, the pipeline capacity increased by nearly two times. This improves the region’s gas supply opportunities and allows for faster filling of Latvia’s Inčukals underground gas storage facility, which stores gas for all the Baltic countries.

Within this project, owned by Lithuanian gas transmission system operator Amber Grid, MT Group was responsible for increasing the capacity of the existing Kiemenai GMS by installing additional filters, gas metering lines, automation, data transmission, electrical and other systems. Upon completion of all the planned works, the capacity of the Kiemenai gas metering station increased to 130.47 GWh/day in the Latvian direction (before it was 67.6 GWh/day) and 119.5 GWh/day in the Lithuanian (instead 65.1 GWh/day before the increase).

“Together with our valuable client Amber Grid and partners, we have strengthened the gas supply capacity and, most importantly, security and stability for the entire Baltic region. We are very grateful to all the project subcontractors and suppliers for their efforts to ensure smooth and efficient work”, says Kristina Norvaišienė, Executive Director at MT Group.
