MT Group, a leading EPC contractor specializing in strategic energy and industrial infrastructure projects, has been awarded a major construction contract by the Cobra IS / Sener consortium for the implementation of Balance of Plant infrastructure at the German LNG Terminal. Project completion is scheduled for 2027.

The award represents one of MT Group’s largest projects in Germany to date and further strengthens the company’s position in one of Europe’s most important energy infrastructure markets.

The German LNG Terminal, developed by German LNG Terminal GmbH and delivered by the Cobra IS / Sener consortium, is a landmark energy infrastructure project for Germany. Designed to strengthen both German and European energy security, the terminal will have an initial regasification capacity of up to 10 billion cubic meters of natural gas annually.

About the German LNG Terminal

Due to the foreign policy situation in spring 2022, the German government decided to build a land-based import terminal for liquefied natural gas in Brunsbüttel in cooperation with the Dutch state-owned infrastructure operator Gasunie and the German energy company RWE.

The terminal for the continuous and future-oriented import of energy is to enter first trial operation and then regular operation in 2027.

Located on Germany’s river Elbe, the facility will strengthen security of supply for Germany and neighbouring European markets while contributing to the diversification of energy imports. The terminal includes two LNG storage tanks of approximately 165,000 cubic meters each.

Initially, it will enable the reliable import of conventional natural gas in liquid form (LNG), then gradually ‘green’ LNG and later also hydrogen derivatives as the form of energy likely to be in use at that time.

In collaboration with Amber Grid, we reached this critical milestone in record time: just seven months after signing the €37.4 million EPC contract. This strategic milestone would not be feasible without the synergy between our engineering teams and national institutions.

Why this project matters:
– Green Innovation: we are installing a 5MW electric compressor that operates with zero direct emissions, significantly reducing CO₂ and methane footprints.
– Energy Security: project includes a new 15km high-voltage power line and advanced automation (E&I&C) to enhance the reliability of Lithuania’s gas transmission grid.
– Flexibility: new infrastructure will allow for real-time balancing of gas flows, cutting energy waste and technological losses.

On 9 February, marking the Baltic States’ Energy Independence Day, EPSO-G together with the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Lithuania organised the first-ever National Energy Knowledge Exam.

MT Group employees were among nearly 2,500 participants who tested their knowledge. Even more exciting was to find out that two of our colleagues Subcontractors Specialist Valentinas Bareikis and Quality Engineer Rafal Jasinski achieved 2nd and 3rd place in the Category of Energy Professionals and were officially awarded for their outstanding results by the Minister of Energy Žygimantas Vaičiūnas and EPSO-G CEO Mindaugas Keizeris.

This achievement reflects not only personal dedication and expertise, but also the strong professional competence MT Group brings to Lithuania’s strategically important energy sector every day.

A meaningful milestone for Vilnius’ green energy future.

At the site of the future Green Hydrogen Plant in Vilnius, a symbolic time capsule was buried together with Vilnius City Municipality, the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Lithuania, and Gijos.

While the ceremony marks an important symbolic moment, the project itself is already well advanced and the plant is steadily taking shape at the territory of the Vilnius Second CHP Plant.

As highlighted during the event, green hydrogen and its related infrastructure will support a more flexible and resilient energy system, enable better integration of Lithuania’s rapidly growing wind and solar capacity, contribute to electricity balancing, and reinforce not only Lithuania’s but also the entire Baltic region’s energy independence.

This reflects strong competence, clear coordination, and dedication from all parties involved. It shall be noted that MT Group has purchased a hydrogen-powered Toyota Mirai and once the green hydrogen refueling stations are opened in Vilnius and Klaipeda, MT Group invites journalists as well as energy and auto/moto enthusiasts to test drive it, because we believe it is a part of our responsibility to engage society and provide a real opportunity to experience hydrogen mobility firsthand.

MT Group is currently building both green hydrogen projects being developed in Lithuania: in Vilnius and in Klaipėda contributing to the country’s growing hydrogen ecosystem and long-term energy independence.

Financial support to Vaiku linija (Children Line), which provides free, confidential emotional support and counseling to children and teenagers, helping them cope with difficulties and feel heard.

Collaboration with Aurimas Mockus, a Lithuanian adventurer and community activist known for his extreme solo expeditions and long-distance ocean rowing challenges in getting his boat back to Lithuania all the way from Western Australia.

We supported our employee and his remaining family, who faced live changing loss.

We provided funds for medicine and improvement of living conditions to single mother raising her paralyzed son on her own for 30 years.

We contributed to strengthening forest ecosystems and, together with the forest authority, will install bird nesting boxes for species in the areas where they are most needed. Furthermore, our amazing team has joined a national tree-planting movement and planted 4,000 trees, restoring one hectare of land in the Kaunas region, Lithuania. By the way these actions took place in the area of the previously executed gas pipeline reconstruction project of MT Group. This is one of our key rules: to return to our project locations with good cause, it can be either families in need, bright students or environmental moves.

We as MT Group as well as our team individually joined the annual ACME Good Deeds Fair (Gerų darbų mugė), where donated funds were used to continue ongoing projects and to launch new initiatives aimed at addressing challenges in education, healthcare, and various social issues facing society.

We have organized the medical care coupons and medication for the pet shelters. Our team was excited to visit shelters and take care of the pets.

We established a scholarship for the most talented students in the high school with engineering profile.

We also allocated our support to Kedainiai branch of the Lithuanian Autism Association Lietaus vaikai and supplied them the educational and development equipment, such as special activity boards, LED rain walls, and other tools that help children better understand themselves and their surroundings, improve focus, and find calm.

We will assist the family with a child with special needs to apply for state support for specific daily use and development equipment. We will also support the family with the rest of its child needs.

The project will be directly connected to a 110 kV high-voltage substation operated by Lithuania’s Transmission System Operator (TSO) Litgrid, strengthening Lithuania’s flexibility and grid resilience. As renewable generation grows across the Baltics, the Rietavas BESS will provide frequency control and balancing reserves, supporting cross-border integration and participation in the Baltic and Nord Pool balancing markets.
