MT Group, a Lithuanian company implementing energy and industrial infrastructure projects in Europe, has signed a EUR 14 million contract with Fluxys LNG – a 100% affiliate of Fluxys Belgium operating 4,000 kilometers of pipeline, a liquefied natural gas terminal totaling a yearly regasification capacity of 9 billion cubic meters and an underground storage facility in Belgium. The project aims to expand the operational volume of the Zeebrugge LNG terminal while significantly reducing the facility’s environmental footprint.
The general contractor’s contract concluded at the end of this year foresees an expansion of one of the first LNG terminals in Europe, which will not only allow for a significant increase in the regasification capacity but also significantly abate greenhouse gas emissions and other pollutants. Complex technological works will last until mid 2023.

MT Group is one of the most experienced LNG infrastructure contractors in Lithuania, having contributed to all major LNG projects nationwide over the last 8 years. The company has designed and built the Klaipeda LNG refueling station, the LNG station in Druskininkai, as well as contributed to the connection of the LNG FSRU Independence to the main gas pipeline network. This experience has significantly increased the competence of the company’s specialists and enabled MT Group to compete in the Western European markets.
The preparatory works for the expansion project of the Zeebrugge LNG terminal are now well underway, with works onsite expected to be commenced in February 2022.
The Zeebrugge terminal project, which is of strategic importance in Europe, will not only strengthen the role of the region as a crossroads for international gas flows but will also make a significant contribution to the development of a greener energy system since this project is fully in line with Fluxys‘ ambitions to drastically reduce the greenhouse gas emissions linked to its activities as infrastructure operator.
The LNG terminal in Zeebrugge has been in operation since 1987 and is one of the main LNG supply points to North-West Europe. The terminal currently supplies gas directly into the Belgian gas grid but also serves France, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, and Germany.
